Ingredients

  • 6 slices sourdough bread
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg, optional
  • 1 tbsp sugar, optional

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, vanilla extract, cinnamon and optionally nutmeg and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Pour whisked mixture into a shallow dish and coat each sourdough bread slice thoroughly, pressing down to absorb as much mixture as possible. Let soak for 2 minutes.
  3. Flip the bread to let the other side soak for another 2 minutes. Repeat for all the sourdough bread slices.
  4. Meanwhile heat a skillet with some oil or butter. When the skillet is heated to medium/high heat, place the sourdough bread slices in a single layer and cook until golden brown on each side (approximately 2 - 3 minutes per side). Before removing, press the bread down to ensure all the soaked mixture has been cooked. If you like it more crispy or brown, you may cook for an additional minute.
  5. Serve warm with fresh fruit, whipped cream and syrup such as date syrup, maple syrup or honey, if desired.
